To her surprise, he managed to catch up to her again, and she smiled at this. She knew now that her pace was favorable for both of them to keep their steps in sync, and conserve energy. To be honest, she was expecting a fight ahead, in Tola that was. And when the atmosphere grew darker with each passing second they came closer to the creepy town, she wondered more and more what lied ahead of them. Whatever it was, she was now sure it was evil...
They finally approached the town of Tola, with men of all kinds roaming outside the barricade. Children were huddled outside, all around a small ember they called a fire. Not only was it dark, but it was cold. More than the cold itself, this environment chilled her to bone. Their sad little faces staring at the blaze, but somehow retaining no light in their eyes. Only the little ones cried, and wept for their mothers' warmth. The other just sat their, almost expressionless. The sight made her stomach churn, as her eyes traced back to the guards out front of the barricade. Adults were fighting with some of them, but found themselves restrained rather than heard. A few bored Soldiers were somehow making fun of the situation, and this made her throat feel as if it were on fire. She wanted to scream, but she knew it wouldn't do anyone any good. So she held it in, as her eyes watered in anger. Just what was going on? What had they done?
Her attention was drawn away a moment, vaguely catching glimpse of the Soldier who was gloating about taking out whatever monsters lied within. What was more sad, was she knew they were Human. The key word was were Human. Her stomach churned as she closed her eyes, and tried to ignore the screams and wails behind the walls. Blood-curdling and malevolent were the growls just beyond those Soldiers, and somehow they stood there with careless faces. It made her sick, that they could joke around and make lightly of the situation at hand, that was obviously absolutely terrible. They were totally ignorant of the misery those townspeople felt, those who were still even alive. And again, her eyes lit up, like a rekindled flame.
Before she could stomp off, and lose herself completely, a man's shouting interrupted her thoughts. Without moving any further, her eyes followed him as he approached Dan. He spoke as if he knew him, but then he called him a 'scumbag'. For him to call Dan such a thing, he obviously didn't know him. Just who the hell did he think he was, calling Dan such a name!? Her anger was about to be redirected to this arrogant stranger, before she stopper herself in time to hear his following statement. He called him 'Denzyl Archer', but that wasn't his name, was it? No, his name was Dan. Or, that was who he introduced himself as. Maybe the man was just drunk and confused, spewing nonsense. Or maybe she was the one who was confused.
Dan's words broke her from her thoughts, as he began to walk off in the opposite direction. There really was no use in sticking around here, as much as she hated to admit it, they couldn't do anything. The Royal Military was already in place, and they would be the ones to take care of it, in whatever means they even meant by such a statement. As much as she wanted to help those sad little children, she simply couldn't, by law. If she even attempted to take them somewhere else, somewhere more safe, the guards would probably make it out to be kidnapping, or something stupid. She was useless. So she just followed behind Dan quietly, caught up in her own thoughts. She wanted to ask him about the man, but didn't want to make things any more awkward than they already were at this point...
